In 1999 Brothers Christopher McBean and Basil Powell held a combined evangelistic effort at the Morant Bay Seventh-day Church under the guidance of the Adventist Youth Department headed at the time by Sister Beverley McDermott.

This first experience ignited a spark in both brothers that would continue to blaze a trail of glory for the Seventh-day Adventist Church and Youth Ministries in particular. Brother McBean went on to lead the Morant Bay Seventh-day Adventist Churh as Pathfinder Leader, Sabbath School teacher and First Elder before he went on to the United Kingdom where he continued his ministry.

Brother Powell went on to be Sabbath School teacher, Head Deacon, Adventist Youth Leader, Personal Ministries Leader, First Elder and an itenerant Evangelist. He was also a member of the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Churches Executive Committe and the Adventist Youth Federation President for many years. He recall that the experience gained under Sister Beverley McDermott (A.Y Leader) and Sister Yvonne Plowright (The most successful Bible Worker in St. Thomas and likely East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Churches, was key in his addiction to soul winning.

Evangelist Powell has conducted several Gospel campaigns through which many persons came to know the Lord. He has preached in several Churches in the Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Churches and as far as Rugby Seventh-day Adventist Church in the United Kingdom. He is currently leading a congregation of New Believers at the Morant Bethel Church in St. Thomas, Jamaica. The Morant Bethel Company was planted on the ninth day of June 2007 after the Morant Bay, Seaforth and Hampton Court District of churches combined to launched a major evangelistic programme under the theme “The way of the Cross” with Evangelist Noel Jumpp (snr.) from Andrews Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kingston Jamaica.

Over one hundred persons gave their lives to the Lord and out of that effort the Morant Bethel Company was formed. Elder Basil Powell was sent to lead the Company in January 2012 after a successful tour of duty by; Pastor Linton Hamilton, Elder Freddie Bingham and Elder Delroy Miller.

While assessing his new assignment Elder Powell noticed that most of the persons that joined the church during Evangelist Jumpp's campaign was either missing or unaccounted for. Further research revealed that an earlier effort hosted by the four Pastorial districts in St. Thomas and held at the Red Hills Round-About in which over four hundred persons where baptised, a number of these persons were from the communities surrounding the Bethel Company. He further noticed that a number of those members were also missing or unaccounted for. Pastor Guy Nemhard was the Evangelist during that campaign.
